Now that it is nearly the middle of the first quarter I have a better understanding of what high school will be like. With this acquired knowledge I can improve my performance in high school and life. The most important thing I learned about high school within these first few weeks is that organization actually does matter. Every time a teacher or former student talks about high school tips, they always say that organization is the key to success, but it has become so cliche that it lost meaning to me. I always hear them say that, then look at my pile of papers and begin to think about organizing it. While I see the value of organizing my papers, I can never seem to just take a minute and do so. In these first weeks my bad organizational habits have actually made a noticeable impact on my education. Not only do I take a while to find papers from weeks before, but I also feel less responsible because of the situations it puts me in. Often a teacher will ask us to get out our homework from Monday and I'll be sifting through my stack of papers, sheet by sheet, in search for that one important paper. Because of these common recurring problems, I have decided to finally put an end to my laziness. The importance of organization is very easily taken for granted, especially to minimalists like me, but in the long run being organized can only help. While it may take a minute to find some folders and categorize your papers for each folder, the benefits will outweigh the risks of being unorganized. In these coming weeks I will finally be taking responsibility and organizing my papers so that I can succeed in life.

Fortnite is a tower defense/third-person shooter game that is being developed by Epic Games. The official Early Access release was on July 25 of this year (2017), and since then founders have been able to purchase the game for either $40.00, $60.00, $90.00, or $150.00. However, anyone who bought a founder's pack for Paragon can purchase Fortnite for 50% off. Because of that offer and my personal interest in the game and company, I purchased Fortnite. Even though I know Fortnite will be free to play in 2018, I still decided to support Epic Games and test Fortnite, and I have truly gotten my money's worth from this game. In Fortnite, players have to build defenses and defend from hordes of zombies using the materials they find in the world. So far it has provided me with weeks of fun and interesting gameplay and I plan to continue playing it in the coming years. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being absolutely dreadful, and 10 being an outstanding achievement in human history, I would give Fortnite a 9/10, this is mainly because it is still in Early Access, so many of the problems I encounter now will likely be fixed within the next year. Fortnite has provided me with everything I could ever wish for in a video game including eventful gameplay, a wide diversity of ways to play the game, progress you can make to be proud about. Epic Games is also currently experimenting with a battle royale mode, in which 100 players fight to be the last man standing with whatever they can find lying around on the limited space of the map. I like to see things like this because it shows that Epic Games is experimenting with different ways of playing the game and is not afraid of showing the public their questionable PUBG remake in a Fortnite style. That being the only controversial thing Fortnite has done, it has pretty clean history and is currently showing a bright future in which Fortnite could become an outstanding game with a high place in the video game industry. Overall, Fortnite allows players to have the freedom of the sandbox game mixed with the strategy and tactics of shooter games. This mix has created unique gameplay that has been a large part of my current day to day life. I would recommend Fortnite to friends, and I hope to see it succeed in the future.

In Fundamentals of Game Art and Design we recently went over the different developments of the digital arts industry from the 1950s to today, we even chose a career we were interested in to make a timeline for, showing how it has developed through the years. Understanding the history of digital art is important because it shows how far we've come and what we can still achieve, progress can always be made, and by using the mistakes of the past we could be the ones to make new methods for digital arts. This lesson caught my attention because it brought light on how much humans have done to make digital art and media an actual career, like the one I researched for the timeline, a texture artist. Just a century ago texture artists for video games didn't even exist, and now it's a career that actually seems quite interesting to me, so interesting I might even take a shot at being one when I get a chance. I've done some additional research on texture artists, and of course the first thing I looked for was their salary, which goes anywhere from $20,000 to $90,000 a year, with the average being about $50,000. Of course that sounded pretty good to me, seeing as I only make $1,000 a year, however I'll have to do a lot of practice in order to get that job, put I'm sure I can do it if I try hard enough to.
